Energy Munich Re Renewable Energy
Munich Re has called for a new range of initiatives regarding climate change, with reinsurance operations CEO Torsten Jeworrek describing the switch from fossil fuels to renewable energy as the prime task of the century.
The firm forecast that the hopes of a successful conclusion to the negotiations in Durban, South Africa, were slim and warned that the Kyoto Protocol would expire without a successor.
Munich Re also said that obstacles needed to be removed from the path of renewable energy development, and said that the insurance industry can help in this regard.
The insurer called upon a core group of nations that have set climate change targets to take the lead and promote renwable energy.
In August Swiss Re warned that global warming was increasing the chance of subsidence occuring in Europe, with a 50% rise in France during the last two decades.

With the Czech economys export-driven recovery slowing, swift implementation of new reforms is needed to ensure sustainable, inclusive long-term growth and better resilience to external shocks, according to the OECDs latest Economic Survey of the Czech Republic.
The report, presented in Prague today by OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría and Czech Prime Minister Petr Necas, shows that the ongoing recovery has been weaker than in neighbouring countries, constraining the pace of convergence in income levels with more prosperous European countries. Read more…

10 Days Days Lic Chairman
The government is likely to take a call on appointment of full-time LIC chief within next 10 days.
The decision on the probable LIC Chairman is expected to be taken by next week by the selection panel, sources said.
The post is lying vacant following the completion of five-year term of T S Vijayan in May this year. As the interim arrangement, the government appointed Additional Secretary Rakesh Singh as Chairman and subsequently D K Mehrotra, incumbent managing director to head the country’s largest insurer.
A selection panel headed by Department of Economic Affairs Secretary R Gopalan had called four probable candidates for discussion in June.
