Employees think life insurance importance will increase

Consumers have a number of options regarding life insurance coverage, and having it over the next five years is important to workers, according to a recent survey.

The poll, taken by Harris Interactive for Colonial Life & Accident Insurance Company, showed 82 percent of full-time workers who have disability, health or life insurance benefits through their employers feel as though having these protections will be important in five years.

Randy Horn, president and chief executive officer of Colonial Life, said workers are recognizing the importance of having a variety of insurance policies, which becomes even truer as they age.

“Employers can meet these needs – without increasing costs to the company – by offering additional voluntary benefits at the worksite,” Horn said.

Having life insurance can give consumers a number of financial options. The most basic is a death benefit, which gives their families a source of income should they pass on.

Other life insurance products can act as an investment vehicle that generally builds value that is not taxed by the federal government.
