Reasons for Getting Renter’s Insurance

People generally tend to be suspicious of insurance policies. Some dismiss them, thinking that they are a source of unnecessary expense and insurance agents are out to dupe them. They like to think that nothing disastrous can happen to them and their family. Such people also feel that if anything does happen, there will be a way to take care of it and an insurance policy is unnecessary. Then there is another section of people who are on the verge of hypochondria, understanding the necessity of insurance and blindly trusting their insurance agents. These people do get duped often, as they take no interest in their insurance schemes, deciding that they are not smart enough to do. However, the right way to go about it, whether you do purchase insurance policies or not, is to take control of your life, understand that insurance is not rocket science and make an informed choice.

Your landlord pays insurance premium for the space that he has lent to you. His policy may even cover the electrical wiring, the plumbing, the floor and the walls. But it does not cover the expensive carpet or linoleum you have on the floor. It does not cover the appliances that use electricity and plumbing. It does not cover the book and DVD racks you have on the walls, or painting. It does not cover your wall mountable LCD TV. For this, you would need household content insurance. Now, in cases of fires, floods or theft, you can use your renter’s insurance to cover these or such losses. Also, in a situation like a fire or a flood which renders the rented space unlivable, your renter’s insurance covers your temporary living in another space. Your renter’s insurance also covers any damage done to your own self, even by a loved one or your landlord himself. Therefore, there are very important reasons to get renter’s insurance.
